It is with praise and gratitude to God for all His goodness to me that I give my testimony. Many years ago I was seriously ill; the medical diagnosis was that of heart trouble, and no hope was given that I should ever be strong and lead an active life again. It seemed that I was doomed to invalidism for the rest of my life.

At that time a friend sent me some Christian Science literature which I read with great interest. Soon I felt a desire to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which was mentioned so often in the articles. I borrowed a copy until I could buy one of my own. Through reading this book I realized that here was a wonderful religion. As I continued to read carefully, the truth dawned upon me; I felt the healing touch of this truth and found myself being freed from fear.

The day came when I could take the four-mile journey by bus to the nearest Christian Science Reading Room for the purpose of buying the textbook. The trip taxed me, however, and when I arrived I was overcome with distress at my physical condition. The librarian noticed this and came to my aid, asking what was troubling me. When I mentioned the medical verdict regarding my condition, she said immediately, "Who told you that?" Being rather surprised at her question, I poured out all my troubles and fears, to which she listened very patiently. Then she asked: "Why do you want to buy the textbook? Do you believe what is written in it? Do you believe it is the truth?" I answered that I knew it was the truth. I cannot now recall all the librarian said to me, but I do know that I came out of the Reading Room perfectly free. It is now fifteen years since that healing took place, and I still enjoy the freedom that came to me then.
