THE TRUE ORIGIN OF ACTIVITY
The teachings of Christian Science are based on the oneness and allness of God. They accept the truth set forth in the Biblical statement (Dent. 4:35), "Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him." Therefore early in his experience the student of this religion learns that because God, Mind, is the all and only power, all right action must of necessity originate in Mind.
That Jesus was ever mindful of this truth is evidenced in his many statements and shown forth by his mighty works. He said (John 5:17), "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." A study of his healings reveals that they were always based on the premise of the allness of God and the indivisibility of Principle and idea. His demonstrations were accomplished not from the standpoint that he was an independent worker, but that he was inseparable from God. He knew that because Love is the source of all action, it is impossible for man, Love's manifestation, to do other than ceaselessly express the fullness of this action.
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 275): "Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,—that is, all power, all presence, all Science. Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind." When the Christian Scientist proceeds from the standpoint that all action comes from Mind and that man by reflection manifests this activity, he works with assurance and confidence. He knows no sense of false responsibility, no fear that good will not appear; and no element of chance is associated with his efforts. He realizes that because all activity takes place within Mind, it must always express Mind's perfection.
