One Saturday I received a wire...
One Saturday I received a wire from my sister informing me that my mother was seriously ill and that the doctor had diagnosed the illness as cancer of the uterus. The doctor advised that my mother be taken to a hospital in a town two hundred miles away for radium treatment.
I immediately got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner and asked him to do some work for my mother. This he lovingly agreed to do. In order to get to the village where my mother is living, I had to travel five hundred miles, and I started out by car early in the morning. Within two days a remarkable change took place in her condition. There was a rapid recovery from the cancer. By the week end she walked a long distance comfortably, and she knew that her health was again established. A complete and permanent healing resulted. Also an attack of bronchitis was healed at the same time.
The protection I received on the five-hundred-mile journey deserves a testimony in itself. Owing to the necessity of leaving early, I had no time to have my car put in proper order. I arrived, but on taking my car to the garage I was told that I was very fortunate to have reached my destination without serious mishap, because the generator was burned out. Before my return journey I had my car serviced, and the proprietor was surprised when I told him that I had traveled five hundred miles, for he said the clutch crumbled to pieces as it was removed from the car. He remarked that I must have had a guardian angel with me on my journey. I told him I had God with me all the way. God was at the helm all the time. Mrs. Eddy's hymn beginning, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14), was my continual prayer, It seemed as though nothing could stop the good work of Christian Science, which was going on all the time.
