For some years I had been annoyed by the appearance on my left leg of swelling of the veins, commonly called varicose veins. Somehow it never occurred to me to overcome the condition by working in Science or by having work done on it, but I accepted it as an inevitable annoyance.

Two years ago, while I was taking class instruction, the swollen veins began to itch and burn. I thought it was due to lack of the exercise which I was used to in my work as a letter carrier, and that evening I went for a long walk, but it did not seem to help. When I retired I saw that each vein was surrounded by an area of redness. Then I understood that the healing was taking place. I knew that my uplifted and spiritualized thought, as well as that of my teacher and classmates, was responsible for the changed condition. I did not look at this leg again for three days, and when I did I found that the leg was perfectly normal.

Two or three weeks after this experience another swollen vein suddenly appeared on my leg where there never had been one before. This time, however, I was alert and immediately began to work for the removal of this manifestation of wrong thinking. I did not seem to make any progress for a few days, but one evening while attending a Christian Science lecture I caught a glimpse of the fact that I was perfect because God had made me perfect, and that evil had no power to mar that perfection. Then the manifestation of error disappeared, and there has been no recurrence of it since.
