SOVEREIGN POWER REFLECTED THROUGH TRUE SELFHOOD
Christian Science shows mankind the way to fulfill its agelong desire for peace, security, and dominion over evil—indeed, for salvation. It is awakening men to the understanding of God as supreme intelligence, Mind, Spirit, Truth, and Love, the sovereign power. Students of this Science are demonstrating the fact that man forever reflects the power of divine Truth and Love. The God-given dominion bestowed on man, as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis, gives him dominion over all things.
The quest for power whereby to ensure the enjoyment of unlimited good has been pursued by mankind for the most part almost anywhere but where it can be found. The understanding that enables one to demonstrate dominion or sovereign power comes through humble, honest prayer that communes with God, divine Mind. This communion is attained only if human will and personal sense are silenced and spiritual consciousness holds sway. For those whose purpose it is to be governed wholly by divine Love and to demonstrate the supremacy of Truth in their lives, there is this encouraging dictum of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Pulpit and Press" (p. 3): "Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love."
So the Christian Scientist, understanding that Mind heals and that man, by reflection, has dominion over evil, does not stand aghast when error confronts him. However aggressive it may seem to be, he stands firmly upon the promise (II Cor. 12:9), "My grace is sufficient for thee." He knows that in his real selfhood he is a spiritual idea of the one Mind, God, who is the only creator and the source of all power. Thus he is alert to reject any subtle suggestion that his understanding is not equal to the mastery of every evil that seems to present itself. Christ Jesus said, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works" (John 14:10). Following the great Way-shower, the student disavows any personal power of his own and thereby forestalls all suggestions of inadequacy.
