UNBROKEN HAPPINESS

The pursuit of happiness has persisted through the ages. Men and women have turned longing eyes toward the promise of something that would give them a more joyous sense than their present experience. They have searched for a way to some place or state of mind in which they might he immune from pain and sorrow. With varying degrees of hope many have even tried to penetrate beyond earthly existence into an unknown realm for the satisfying of their desire. Yet nearly two thousand years ago Jesus said (Matt. 4:17), "The kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Since the discovery of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy those who have followed her teaching have learned to regard happiness as one of the results of right thinking. They find that the harmony of being is sustained by the law of God and therefore cannot be destroyed or interrupted.

When our Master told his disciples that the kingdom of God was within themselves, he was pointing out that happiness is already established in true consciousness, which he knew to be the reflection of the One whom our Leader has tenderly shown to be our all-harmonious Father-Mother God. It was his understanding of this spiritual fact which enabled Jesus to realize the powerlessness, in fact, the nothingness, of the hatred and opposition directed against his teaching; and his assurance of at-one-ment with the source of harmony empowered him mentally to rise above the human testimony of pain and sorrow with which he was so frequently confronted.
