Purpose, Object, Function, Fruitage

[Extracts from a report from a branch church worker and from a report from the Reading Room committee of another branch church]

My work takes me all over the United States, and in the course of my travels I visit the Christian Science Reading Rooms in the cities and towns in which I stay. I find that the most active Reading Rooms are those on the ground floor. My own branch church activity, together with many years' experience in using the facilities of Reading Rooms throughout this country, has led me to see that an active, busy Reading Room is an indication of a progressive church, in which healings are taking place.

It seems to me that some church members have perhaps not seen the importance of their Reading Room and their individual responsibility for its support through using it, or of doing metaphysical work for it. Some do not see that our Reading Room is a door leading to attendance at our services and therefore that door is important.

It is helpful to have the Reading Room open every day wherever this is practical, and during hours that are most convenient for those who may wish to use it. I have found that when church members support their Reading Room, understand its purpose, love it, are enthusiastic about it, attendance at church and lectures has grown and Sunday School enrollments have increased as well.
