BEING IS ONE

The study of Christian Science leads us to see that all that is true and good finds its basis in one God, one being. Everything good must have its origin in one self-existent cause. All reality and activity is an expression of the one and only Mind. Even though so-called material sense testimony attempts to tell us otherwise, it still remains to be seen that being is one, not two. There, are not two kinds of being— being that is good and being that is bad. God's being is one, infinite, and wholly good and does not admit or permit duality. Mind is One, Principle is One, Spirit is One, Life is One, Soul is One, Love is One, consciousness is One.

The oneness of being means the complete unity of being, one in all and all in one. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in her book "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 264): "Unity is the essential nature of Christian Science. Its Principle is One, and to demonstrate the divine One, demands oneness of thought and action."

In order to better understand what Mrs. Eddy has so aptly termed the Science of being, it is essential to acquire and develop a more expansive and deeper sense of being as one and of how to make that understanding practical. Abstract intellectual reasoning on oneness is of no value. The understanding of the oneness of being becomes useful only as it meets and eliminates the multifarious beliefs that argue duality—good and evil, twoness instead of oneness, separation instead of unity.
