HELPING THE CHILDREN

Parents who are students of Christian Science, and whose children have enrolled in school for the first time, can through their right knowing help to make the school experience both happy and rewarding.

It is important for parents to keep clearly in thought the great truth that real parenthood is the divine parenthood, because God is man's Father-Mother, the only creator and cause of all that really is. Therefore God's children, reflecting and expressing all of His attributes, such as intelligence, wisdom, understanding, must be the only real children. Mary Baker Eddy shows the distinction between God's children and the children of men in her definition of "children" in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 582, 583): "The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love. Sensual and mortal beliefs; counterfeits of creation, whose better originals are God's thoughts, not in embryo, but in maturity; material suppositions of life, substance, and intelligence, opposed to the Science of being."

As parents constantly remember that each one of God's ideas is ageless, endued in the beginning by divine Mind with wisdom and intelligence, and now and ever at the standpoint of perfection, they will be laying a foundation of truth which will sustain their children during all the years of their secular education. Good is, forever has been, and ever will be the only reality, because God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. No waiting period is required to make God's children mature, perfect, and complete.
