TENDERNESS AND MIGHT

There is no might without tenderness. This was apparent to Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science and proved the power of Love in countless instances of healing. We have her words, drawn from deep experience, "Tenderness accompanies all the might imparted by Spirit" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 514).

The Lord's Prayer, ending with the Master's declaration (Matt. 6: 13), "Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever," shows the source of all might to be God. And the spirit of humaneness and Christly devotion in which Christ Jesus did his healing works signified that God is Love. The power of Love must ever be tender and compassionate, must be might suffused with the warmth of spiritual affection—unselfed love. Not merely the letter, but the spirit of Christliness, endows the student of Christian Science with the ability to heal and uplift mankind.

Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 113): "The letter of Science plentifully reaches humanity to-day, but its spirit comes only in small degrees. The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science,— pulseless, cold, inanimate."
