A lecture was my first introduction...

A lecture was my first introduction to Christian Science, and although I understood little of what was said, I received immediate benefits. For the first time I saw clearly that food has no power to harm man, and I immediately overcame fear of certain foods, a fear I had entertained for about eight years.

I borrowed from the nearest Christian Science Reading Room a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and later I also read Prose Works by the same author, becoming so engrossed in the contents that for several weeks I did little else but read this volume. For the first time in years I forgot about my body, and harmony soon began to manifest itself in a clearer complexion, in more normal weight and body functions, and in a happier outlook on life than I had ever known; and sinus drainage and allergy irritations disappeared.

During those first few months I constantly had in my thought this statement, dear to all Christian Scientists: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). Poise and confidence replaced confusion and fear as I remembered to obey the Biblical admonition (Prov. 3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." And indeed God has directed my path!
