Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 240), "Remember that mankind must sooner or later, either by suffering or by Science, be convinced of the error that is to be overcome;" and farther on she saws (p. 241), "The Bible teaches transformation of the body by the renewal of Spirit." I have been led to prove the truth of these statements, with suffering as the teacher to lead me to the Christ, Truth. I am happy to have an opportunity to praise God for this helpful experience.

Several years ago I was stunned by the passing on of my husband, who was very dear to me. Soon afterward I was taken seriously ill. I had to undergo a surgical operation which was considered very serious and which had painful effects on my digestive system. Intermittently the assimilation of food became impossible, the intestines being subject to paralyzing constrictions.

I suffered a great deal and became weaker and weaker. Phlebitis, resulting from the operation, threatened me with frequent relapses, and the kindly doctors, who gave me every care, said that they were powerless to correct this distressing condition. For five years I led a miserable existence, and just when I seemed to come to the end of my human resistance. Christian Science was presented to me by a dear friend who had just been marvelously healed.
