During one summer in the early...
During one summer in the early 1920's I was very lonely and unhappy. The unsatisfying nature of materiality was becoming more and more apparent to me. From the time I was a youth, I always felt that there must be some underlying truth which I had not yet found, and I determined that if I ever learned of a cause founded on such a truth I would give it my entire support.
During this mental state of right desire and while I was reaching out for a higher sense of life, the words Christian Science kept coming to my thought. I had never read a word of Christian Science literature, but I had heard that there were Reading Rooms, so I sought one out, went in, and began to read a book lying on a table. It was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
As I read, it seemed that I was reading something which I had always believed. All my early life I had longed for this truth. The following Wednesday evening I went to a testimony meeting in a Christian Science church. Not long afterwards I joined that church and during the intervening years have had the precious privilege of serving it and the Cause of Christian Science in several capacities.
