Christian Science has been my...

Christian Science has been my religion since boyhood. I have had many proofs of its healing power and mans experiences of its protection, especially during six years of Army service before and during World War II.

I want to relate at this time a recent experience that proved again to me Truth's ever-availability. Early in January, 1949, while traveling in our automobile through the high western plains of our country just east of the Rocky Mountains, we encountered zero weather and blizzard conditions with heavy, blowing snow which blinded vision for driving. Because of inaccurate weather and road information, we continued on our way to the next town, and after traveling for some time in these conditions we found ourselves off the highway in a snowdrift.

We later learned that we were quite some distance from any kind of human assistance. I got out of the car and worked hard and fast with a small shovel to clear a track in the drifting snow, but without effect, for the car was lodged on top of the snow and the rear wheels turned without traction. Nearly exhausted from shoveling and pushing, I got into the car to rest and to determine our next move. The tension and anxiety within our car were strong. I felt a heavy responsibility for my passengers, who included my wife and small son and a friend with her five-year-old boy, who were not Christian Scientists.
