FREED FROM FEAR

Have you ever read these words in the Bible (I John 4:18): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear"? I should like to tell you a true story that expresses their beauty and power.

Margaret, who was seven years old and a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School, loved animals. One day she started to pet a beautiful Persian cat, but much to her surprise he spat at her and then ran away. Several times she walked toward him, but each time he ran from her. Margaret did not understand this and later spoke of it to her mother.

Margaret's mother asked the owner of the cat why her pet was so unfriendly. The woman, who was not a Christian Scientist, explained that she was unable to control him when children were around. "At one time," she said, "a child teased him and hit him with a stick. I feel that he will never again regard children with loving affection."
