Through the years I have been and now am indescribably grateful for the many wonderful demonstrations of God's power, presence, and love we have received.

Over twenty years ago we moved into a house which had four apartments. I was warned by two of the tenants of the third: "She is a Christian Scientist, always reading the Bible and a little black book." But I found her an agreeable neighbor.

One morning I awoke with all the symptoms of pneumonia. I had had this disease three times, and the doctor had told my husband that the next time it might not be possible to save me. I was sick much of the time anyway. My husband was persuaded by me to go on to his work. I got our boy off to school, bathed, dressed, and fed the baby and put her to bed for her morning nap. Then I went upstairs to this Christian Scientist. She exclaimed when she saw me, for I was seemingly very ill. I asked her if Christian Science could help me and if she would help me quickly. I knew nothing of Science myself. She was ironing at this time, but she handed me her "little black book," opened to page 468, and asked me to memorize "the scientific statement of being." She said that she would work for me soon. All day I tried to memorize this statement, but I was so ill it was hard to concentrate. However, by four o'clock I was absolutely free from every symptom of this difficulty, and that was the end of it throughout the ears since.
