In gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for her great work. "Science and Health with Key to the Scripture?," I wish to offer humble gratitude.

After I had suffered for many years from lumbago and sciatic rheumatism, a turn came for the worse, and after a series of medical treatments by three physicians for several years, I entered a hospital for medical observation, diagnosis, and treatment.

Three weeks of confusion and doubt passed while I was in the hospital under treatment. During the last few days of this period copies of The Christian Science Journal and the Sentinel were given me. A new hope and understanding arose within me. Two days later a copy of Science and Health was presented to me. On the twenty-first day, after a long night of earnest and prayerful study, I requested to be released from the hospital and sent home, much to the surprise of my ward companions and to the consternation of the physicians attending me. An ambulance was needed, as I had been in a traction splint for three weeks.
