THE VALID CLAIM TO EXISTENCE

Is there anyone who does not admit admit the fact of his own existence? Confronted with this question, the answer to which is so obvious, we may naturally wonder at it. Yet, in demonstrating the truths of Christian Science, we learn that we must claim existence only for that which is real and which possesses the right to exist. Since we are constantly admitting existence for ourselves as well as others, it is important that we adhere to the truth and claim existence only for that which actually and lawfully exists.

"How do we know the truth? How do we know what possesses a valid claim to existence?" you may ask. Existence is given only by one, and that one is God, the only creator. Since God is Spirit, His creation is spiritual, and nothing that is unlike Spirit, God, has any truth or actual existence.

Does this seem startling and contrary to common belief? It may well seem startling if we accept as true the testimony of the material senses. Howerver, Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," explains that what the material senses accept as real is a perverted concept which divine Science reverses. She also reveals that the spiritual is the real and natural.
