NEVER DOUBTING

In her inspiring article called "Angels," Mary Baker Eddy makes an arresting promise. She says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 307), "Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment." It is noteworthy that in making this promise Mrs. Eddy makes a stipulation. She does not say that if we wait we shall have all we need every moment. No, that is not enough. First she states the positive spiritual fact that divine Love is ever present, and then comes the assurance that we shall have all we need every moment on the condition that we wait never doubting.

Christ Jesus understood and tried to make his followers understand that in working out the problem of supply they must eliminate the element of doubt. In his effort to lift his disciples' thought from the material up to the spiritual and ever-available nature of supply, the Master counseled them (Luke 12:29), "Seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind." Jesus wanted them to see that if they expected God's spiritual law of supply to operate for them in their daily affairs, they must rid their thinking of doubt.

"But," one may say, "it is difficult to keep doubt from creeping in when there are financial obligations to meet and the bank says there will not be sufficient funds to meet them. It isn't easy to keep doubt out when the task of providing for one's family has become a perplexing problem."
