Johnson City, Tennessee
(First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Johnson City, 222 East Watauga Avenue, was dedicated on Sunday, October 2, 1949. Reading of the history of the Christian Science movement in Johnson City highlighted the service. The local church is a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.

Christian Science was first introduced in Johnson City early in 1913, when a few students began holding Sunday services in a private home at 346 East Main Street. Attendance at these Sunday services gradually increased, and on April 1, 1916, the group moved into larger quarters at room 311 in the Harr Building. In October, 1916, the group was organized, and was recognized by The Mother Church as a Christian Science Society.
