THE MANTLE OF LOVE
Today
the earth has been transformed,
And every heart was warmed
To witness, in the morning light,
Beauty that fell in dark of night.
On every twig, and grass, and tree
It lay—impartially.
No one too mighty or too slight
To wear a robe of purest white.
So to the wide and waiting world
The truth is presently unfurled.
And though the night seem dark and drear,
God sends to us His message clear.
To her, to him, to you, to me,
It comes—impartially.
It falls alike on everyone,
For each is the beloved son. Mary Elizabeth Davis
