It was through hearing a Christian Science lecture over thirty years ago, when I was living in the United States of America, that I came into Science. From early childhood I had attended an orthodox Sunday School and church and had learned to love and reverence the name of God, but that was all. Through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, also through attendance at Christian Science church services, I was healed of extreme weakness, a condition for which a doctor had previously said he must turn me over to Christian Science to heal, and I became strong and well and have remained so. The Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation as given on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health and also "the scientific statement of being," on page 468, have always been a great help to me.

In 1919 a little girl, three and a half years of age, who was living with us had influenza during the so-called epidemic. During the first two days and nights she suffered violent pain and was unable to retain any food; the next two days and nights she was unconscious, waking at intervals for a few minutes and having severe hemorrhages. Through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, however, on the fifth morning she was entirely free from this condition, and she progressed so rapidly that on the ninth morning it was impossible to keep her in bed any longer. There was no weakness or convalescence of any kind. Some time later she was healed quickly of measles and chicken pox through the help of the same practitioner. When we notified the health authorities of these two so-called contagious complaints and stated that we were having Christian Science treatment, we were quarantined, as was customary, but no suggestion was made by the authorities that any material remedies be used. We much appreciated this, as well as their general kindness.

I shall always remember the loving-kindness of the American people, especially when my husband passed on suddenly. On my return to England I much needed something to occupy my time and attention. That need was met by divine Love. An advertisement in The Christian Science Monitor led indirectly to a nursing position in a Christian Science Nursing Home for a period of three years. This was a great blessing.
