In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 242): "There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality—to have no other consciousness of life—than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses." I found that passage to be true in the overcoming of an attack of shingles. The pain and outward appearance almost overwhelmed me, so I called for the help of a Christian Science practitioner. There were many sleepless nights, and the healing seemed slow; but it finally came, and I am very grateful.

I have had many healings over a period of about thirty-five years, but I have never had to rise into spiritual sense and see the truth as clearly as I did while undergoing this experience. I had allowed the cares of this world to crowd into my consciousness, even though I never neglected my Science reading and work. Gradually I learned the lessons of patience and joy and more love for the things of Spirit, and I was healed. To say I am grateful for the earnest and loving work of the practitioner is putting it mildly.
