On page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

On page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, asks, "Are we really grateful for the good already received?" When Christian Science was first presented to me by a friend, I recognized it as the "pearl of great price" for which I had been seeking. I was not in need of physical healing at the time, but rather in search of an acceptable religion through which to worship God, and I was not at once aware of the healing power of Science.

Our oldest child, then about seven years of age, had been attending the Christian Science Sunday School for several years when after a yearly physical examination the physician reported a condition on the soles of his feet termed athlete's foot. A prescription for an ointment to be applied daily was given and dutifully filled. However, the child was reluctant to have this medication applied and asked, "Don't we stand for Christian Science, Mother?" This question startled me. I saw clearly that it was not enough to send the child to the Christian Science Sunday School; we must help him to apply the truths taught there. We agreed that it would not be necessary to use the medication, and nothing more was said about it for several days. When his feet were next inspected they were normal. At the same time my husband consented to complete reliance on this Science for healing for our children.

I am most grateful for the loving help always available through our Christian Science practitioners. All forms of so-called children's ailments were quickly met. Healings of mumps, pneumonia, heavy colds, ptomaine poisoning, and stomach ailments are a few that I recall.
