TRUE INSPIRATION
As a rule, inspiration implies a quickening of thought, a response to that which is good and uplifting. The value of the works of authors, poets, and other thinkers is often judged by the inspiraton we receive from them. Many, believing good to be material, regard inspiration as an outcome of the human intellect, while Christian Science holds true inspiration to be purely spiritual.
We learn in Christian Science that man is the son, or idea, of God, spiritual and perfect, and not the Adam-man, the suppositional opposite of the man of God's creating, mentioned in the second chapter of Genesis. Man is eternally filled with holy inspiraton, as this passage from Job implies (32:8): "There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."
True inspiration emanates from God, divine Mind, and imparts the understanding of man's eternal oneness with this Mind as its idea. It is spontaneous and unlabored; it includes no consciousness of matter or a so-called material creation. Our Master, Christ Jesus, who fully demonstrated the Christ, possessed and expressed true inspiration every moment. Mary Baker Eddy writes of him in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 51), "He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did." And she continues father on: "Jesus was unselfish. His spirituality separated him from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the dead."
