I became interested in Christian Science...
I became interested in Christian Science about twenty-five years ago after attending a lecture. I did not take up the study of this Science for a physical healing, but I was looking for a rational religion.
My first healing was experienced when I was a young man travelling on the road as a salesman. I was troubled with a warty condition on my hands, and it was very embarrassing to me to meet the public. I tried every material remedy I knew of, but to no avail. One day when I was visiting a sister who had taken up the study of Christian Science, she asked me what I was doing to rid myself of the warts, and I told her of my experience. She asked if I did not want to try Christian Science. I said that I did, and treatment was started. A few weeks later, when I looked at my hands, the warts were gone.
A few years ago I had a severe case of skin trouble: lumps and scales covered my entire scalp and neck. After I had worked on the problem to the best of my understanding and the condition grew worse instead of better, I heeded Mrs. Eddy's instruction on page 420 of Science and Health, "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them." At the time I was in another city and prayed for guidance to be led to a prctitioner who would help me. I called upon one, and after the first treatment I knew my prayer had been answered. The healing was slow and extended over a number of months, but when the Christ-healing came, it removed everything that was offensive, even a large black mole I had had for a number of years. I thank God for this healing and for an increased appreciation of what Mrs. Eddy has done for mankind in giving us Christian Science; and I am very grateful to the practitioner who was so patient in helping me to gain more of the Christ, Truth.
