Christian Science first came into...
Christian Science first came into my experience in Calcutta in 1946, when a business associate asked my opinion on extracts from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which he was reading at the time. I was particularly impressed by the chapter entitled "Fruitage" and remarked that if the healings were authentic, then Christian Science was something very good, making a mental note, the while, to investigate Science at a more leisurely time in my affairs.
A lecture notice posted outside a public hall near my home in England in February, 1947, reminded me of my resolution. After attending the lecture, I borrowed Science and Health and read it from cover to cover, coming to the conclusion that I had found the truth. The study of Christian Science has helped my wife and me in business affairs and in securing housing facilities in seemingly difficult times on two occasions. Influenza and a badly sprained ankle have been healed. The first experience was solved with the aid of a kind practitioner. Supply has also come unexpectedly. Social smoking and drinking were given up as my thinking improved, and painful, enlarged tonsils were healed through the help of a practitioner.
Mrs. Eddy states on page 546 of the textbook, "The proof that the system stated in this book is Christianly scientific resides in the good this system accomplishes, for it cures on a divine demonstrable Principle which all may understand." Much good has come to me through the regular study of the Bible and Science and Health, for which I am deeply grateful. Membership in The Mother Church inspires me to exhibit and helps me to strive to maintain a high standard of conduct, thought, and conversation. I want to express my gratitude for Mrs. Eddy and Christian Science and for the good this Science is doing for the whole world.—Walter Greene, London, England.
