THE KINGDOM WITHIN

Christ Jesus said (Luke 17: 20, 21), "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." How full of meaning are the Master's words in their implication of authority and dominion!

In the first chapter of Genesis we read that God gave man dominion, "dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth"—over all the beliefs of life and intelligence in matter. Reaffirming this spiritual fact, Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 516), "Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth."

In Christian Science we learn that man is an individual idea in Mind, and to the degree that we govern our thoughts scientifically do we become aware of the control of Mind. Science also shows that our concept of the world is subjective; that everything we see, hear, and experience is our consciousness of it, and what we think determines the conditions under which we live, whether it is sickness or health, famine or abundance. This explains how Bible characters in the past and people in these troublous days who have been conscious in some measure of the kingdom of heaven within have lived through privations, wars, and famine without harm to themselves.
