As understanding grows, impeding growths vanish
"Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." This statement from page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy has been proved when I have relied on Christian Science. I have found that when I have put self to one side. Love has indeed led the way. Some time ago, at my place of employment, I was given work to do which was considered by most men in that department to be not so desirable as the work which I had been doing. However, regardless of their belief, I entered the new duties with eagerness and anticipation. I found that the experience provided a broader concept of my employer's organization, so that I gained a greater knowledge of the work, which has since been most helpful.
About sixteen years ago, before I learned of Christian Science, my breathing was impaired by bony growths in my nose. I was taking medical treatments and expected to undergo an operation to remove the growths. I had undergone a similar experience a few years before and had obtained temporary relief. When Christian Science was presented to me by an uncle, I studied it in all my free time. I enjoyed the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and gained a better understanding of the Bible from the correlative passages in Science and Health. As a result of my interest in Christian Science, I lost all desire to continue medical treatments, and faith in material methods was replaced with a conviction that all true being is in Spirit. With this change in my thought, the impeding growths disappeared and my breathing became free. During this same period my attitude and actions at my place of work changed so radically that a superior who had previously complained of my work recommended me for a promotion.
Comparatively early in my study of Christian Science it was my blessed privilege to receive class instruction, which my wife and I had together. We are both grateful for the firm foundation it has given us for continuing our study of Christian Science.
