Attracted to Science through reading the Monitor

Jesus said, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matt. 5:6). It was because I was searching for truth in the written word and also for a newspaper which gave international news that I was led to The Christian Science Monitor. I knew nothing about Christian Science, but gained a great regard for the Monitor, to which I subscribed. My interest in its religious article led me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I shall never forget the love which was expressed in that church, and I soon obtained a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and began to study.

Although I had always attended an orthodox church and taught in the Sunday School, the understanding I had of God was neither practical nor reliable, and the Bible remained a book of mystery. How good it was to learn in Christian Science of God as Mind and of man as the forever expression of the one perfect Mind. Gradually, as I put into practice the truths I studied, I became well and happy instead of constantly sick and fearful. Life began to have a meaning, and the Scriptures were illuminated. I discovered that joy and happiness, as qualities of God, were my birthright, and this sense of spiritual joy has stayed with me.

I am grateful that the intolerance of members of my family towards Christian Science made me more loyal to my understanding of Truth. Although I seldom mentioned Science to those around me, I had to live close to Principle, and today I rejoice in the co-operation, understanding, and regard for Christian Science expressed by those who at one time opposed it.
