TRUE LIBERALISM IS SPIRITUAL

Liberalism is looked upon by many in the world today as a useful ideology or political doctrine whose aim is to provide freer thinking and living for the race and to combat antidemocratic systems aiming to shackle it politically, economically, socially, or otherwise. As such, the broad objectives of liberalism are commendable. But the question as to what true liberalism is, remains yet to be understood by a large part of mankind.

In answer to the question, "What is liberalism?" the governor of an American state took this subject out of the realm of politics and put it in the right light when he stated, "True liberalism springs from our deepest spiritual aspirations." Christian Science teaches that true liberalism follows an understanding of God, Spirit.

Thus only through communion with God, man's Maker, can we perceive the ideas that constitute genuine liberality of thought and action. If this great fact were more generally understood, it would spur progressive statesmen and others to abandon their present well-nigh futile efforts to find solutions in matter or material theories for the world's perplexing ills and lift their thinking to more spiritual spheres, where the only sound solutions are to be found.
