Skin disease healed; hair grows again

"Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." Even these beautiful lines from the twenty-third Psalm inadequately express my gratitude for all the blessings that have come into my life through Christian Science.

While serving in the Women's Army Corps in the southwest Pacific, I contracted a form of tropical skin disease. It first affected my eyes. Immediately I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner in New York for help, while I continued to perform my required duties, studying the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy at every available moment. Upon awakening one morning, I found that I could not see, due to a poisonous secretion which completely covered the eyes. Great fear was expressed by all around me, but I refused to accept it. The company clerk reported my condition to the commanding officer, whereupon I was ordered to report to our dispensary for checkup and possible evacuation.

In a few days the face, neck, and scalp were also affected. I knew the practitioner was standing by, and within a week came this wonderful healing message: "Study thoroughly the meaning of 'oil' in the Glossary of Science and Health." It was a revelation to realize that the true meaning of oil is "consecration; charity; gentleness; prayer; heavenly inspiration" (p. 592). I was very grateful for this glimpse of Truth in my hour of need.
