Gratitude expressed for growth Spiritward
I was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School at the age of three and used to think that my experience was not like that of one who had come into Christian Science through miraculous healing. A subtle sense of unhappiness because I had not had an opportunity to choose the truth as I saw others had, did not come to the surface to be eradicated until I was having class instruction. It was then I saw that this thought was a form of stagnation, and I came to realize that through right desire, prayer, and purification of purpose I was constantly coming into Christian Science, and that environment, history, or conditions of matter had nothing to do with revelation. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 34), "If Christ, Truth, has come to us in demonstration, no other commemoration is requisite, for demonstration is Immanuel, or God with us; and if a friend be with us, why need we memorials of that friend?" This statement dissolved for me any further need for a memorial to the date when I came into Christian Science and, instead, flooded my consciousness with gratitude for the revealing moments in my growth Spiritward.
Now that I have two daughters enrolled in that same Sunday School, I am able to count many blessings stemming from my early training there. Healings which I experienced as a child include those of boils, burns, sore throat, a felon on the finger, and infection; schoolwork was made easier when I claimed Mind as my intelligence, lost articles were restored, and I was protected in accidents. As the years went by, traits of character gradually became more wholesome, bringing joy and poise instead of disappointment and frustration. Rearing children with the acknowledgment of God as their Father-Mother is one of the most valuable results of the teachings of Christian Science, for thereby the illusions of heredity, environment, false pride, false responsibility, selfishness, and ingratitude are dispelled.
Mrs. Eddy writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 307), "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." This statement has been proved effective many times, such as in financial problems, business conferences, making right decisions, finding right companionship, problems of homemaking, and church work. In all these instances lack, whether it was of harmony, intelligence, or money, was replaced with spiritual abundance.
