Heat prostration yields to prayer

Some twenty-five years ago, when I first picked up a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and looked at the title, the word "health" stood out to me, and I thought it must be a book dealing with physical exercises, diet, and so on. My surprise was considerable when I discovered that the book was all about God and His children, among whom I was apparently included. My joy was great when I found out through actual experience that a measure of spiritual understanding and right thinking, together with wholehearted reliance on God instead of on medicines and material means, resulted in healthy physical conditions. In all the years since, Christian Science has been my only physician.

My first healing in Science was of chronic rheumatism, supposedly acquired in the British Army in the First World War. This painful and crippling condition, from which I suffered increasingly in damp weather, yielded wholly and permanently to Christian Science treatment.

Having come to the United States from England, I found the heat of New York City in summer exceedingly difficult to bear and one day experienced a severe attack of heat prostration. I made my way with difficulty to a practitioner's office. Within twenty minutes or so after the practitioner had talked to me about God's love and goodness and about man's true spiritual nature as His child, exempt from evil and suffering, and had prayed with me silently, I walked out of his office completely healed. This healing too has been permanent, and never once since then have I been upset by extreme heat.
