THE FATHER'S PLEASURE

A SINCERE Christian should frequently tell himself that his desire is for the fulfillment of God's will, not human will. This desire needs to be much deeper than mere words if it is to accomplish the glad relinquishment of personal wishes and grateful acceptance of God's direction.

Christian Science teaches us that God is omniscient and that His unfailing wisdom outlines spiritually and governs implicitly every activity in the lives of His children. It also reveals the spiritual fact that under His wise direction everything in His universe co-operates to accomplish good and every idea is equally blessed. It would be anomalous after we have admitted this to be true if we still believed that a human plan we have evolved is so perfect that it will safeguard our happiness and success more surely than God's plan. If we are even a little reluctant to completely surrender our cherished plans and human ambitions, to allow them to be exalted or altered by His wisdom, and then wholeheartedly follow where He leads, we are avowing that we have a mind separate from God, and that it is capable of governing our lives more wisely than could He. Is it not strange to believe that we are wiser than our divine Father?

The countless students of Christian Science who have trusted God's guidance of their lives have learned that yielding human will to God's will never means sacrificing good, but always assures them greater blessings than they would design for themselves. With this conviction in their hearts they can rejoice in the truth of Paul's words, "It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."
