"He that dwelleth in the secret...

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." This widely quoted verse has been a source of inspiration and strength to me ever since I began studying Christian Science. On leaving home to enter the United States Marine Corps I took the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy along. Up to this time I had not given too much attention to Christian Science, even though I had the privilege of attending Sunday School for several years.

One of my first demonstrations in Science was of supply. I wanted my own books to take overseas. Things looked hopeless on twenty-one dollars and fifty cents a month, but before sailing I had acquired not only the basic books, but Prose Works by Mrs. Eddy and a Complete Concordance and was even able to subscribe to the periodicals. The needed money came from a source not anticipated.

During my service overseas I had no opportunity of seeing or talking to another Scientist for eighteen of the twenty-two months spent there. There were times of doubt, fear, apathy, and questioning, but being forced to work out my own problems helped me to understand how to rely on God alone.
