TASTING HEAVEN

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy makes this challenging statement (p. 263): "When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven."

Heaven, or harmony, appears as we understand God's allness, wholeness, and eternality to be the only reality, and when mortal thinking with its lack, discord, or disease is understandingly denied substance or reality. Heaven, Christian Science reveals, is the realm of spiritual reality, a divine state of consciousness. Each one may attain this consciousness through the recognition of man's true nature as the offspring of Spirit, God.

Christian Science reveals true being as God-constituted and God-maintained. It opens the way for every individual to find his true source and substance in God and satisfies the hunger for spiritual truths. It teaches that our concept of existence directly influences our experience. We are blending our thoughts either with the false concept of life in matter or with the true concept of life as spiritual and Godlike.
