My first experience in Christian Science...

My first experience in Christian Science was an instantaneous healing of a severely sprained or possibly fractured ankle. Since then I have seen and experienced many healings and blessings. At one time a sprained and badly bruised foot and ankle were healed in one week with the help of a practitioner. At another time, when I felt I was seriously ill with an attack of hay fever, my little daughter said she would read to me from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs Eddy. I fell asleep and awoke in about an hour completely healed. This healing took place about twenty-five years ago and has been permanent. At this time I laid aside glasses which I had used for reading or close work. I have learned the meaning of our Leader's words (Science and Health, p. 266), "Would existence without personal friends be to you a blank?" because after living in a large city I moved to a small town and found no Christian Scientists or Christian Science activity closer than fifty or seventy-five miles. I was a stranger in a strange land. It was then I learned to make my books my companions. I am most grateful for this experience, because it brought spiritual growth and progress.

When my husband passed on I was beautifully sustained and supported. Although he went about seven in the morning, I was in my place in church as First Reader at eleven o'clock. The healing of grief or separation was complete in ten days. I shall always be grateful for our Hymnal. The words from the hymns kept pouring into my consciousness so fast that many times I burst out singing. I am grateful for all our literature, especially The Christian Science Monitor, which is my guide in many ways. Its true statements are always unbiased and helpful. For loving friends and practitioners who worked with me so patiently and lovingly when the way seemed dark, I am likewise very grateful.

Membership in The Mother Church and class instruction are among my many blessings, also the privilege of serving in a small way the great Cause of Christian Science. I am deeply grateful for Mary Baker Eddy, who was so spiritually-minded that she could give us her great discovery, Christian Science. I am thankful to God, the Giver of every good and perfect gift.— (Mrs.) Margaret C. Peterson, Berryville, Virginia.
