IF WE BUT REALIZE

We must beware
when we condemn
unless the very snare
in which a brother's fallen
becomes our pen.

Beholding faults
in other men
(where virtues also bloom)
unwittingly
we nurture them.

At last, awake,
we see them all as lies,
our own and others' faults—
God, good, the only power
we realize.
