The following incident gave my family and me irrefutable proof that, through the application of Christian Science, all material testimony and law are annulled.

I was stationed overseas in a large Naval Supply warehouse and was driving a lift truck across a wooden bridge connecting two sections of the building, when suddenly the bridge caved in. Both the vehicle and I dropped some thirty feet to the floor below. I was taken to a military hospital, where the doctors' examination revealed crushed ribs, internal injuries, fractured pelvis, and fractured femur. I do not recall doing so, but I was later told by all present that I kept repeating over and over that I was a Christian Scientist, that I wanted no medical treatment, and that I wanted two Christian Scientists, both of whom I named. One was the registered practitioner who was librarian of the near-by Christian Science Service Center, and the other was a Christian Scientist serving as a United States Army Chaplain.

During the night double pneumonia developed, necessitating my removal to a private room with nurses in constant attendance and my name being placed on the danger list. Three days later the doctors told the chaplain and the practitioner that the doctors could do no more, and that I would not live through the night. The practitioner stayed at my bedside all night, and in the morning there was improvement. I made steady progress, and in about two weeks I was moved to a ward, and my name was removed from the critical list. My progress was so outstanding that visiting medical officers were amazed when given the case history. My nurse said that the healing was one of the grandest things she had ever witnessed in her many years of nursing. Very shortly it was decided that I was sufficiently strong to be put in a cast and flown to the United States.
