EXTRACTS FROM REPORTS

of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Oklahoma

The Committee on Publication watches all legislative measures in order that necessary action may be taken with respect to any measure restrictive of the practice of Christian Science or the rights of Christian Scientists. Of the several bills proposed in which Christian Scientists were interested the following two passed both houses of the Oklahoma legislature and were signed as law by the Governor:

Senate Bill No. 37, an Act requiring public schools to teach health courses as well as physical education, carries proper clauses protecting our children. A part of Section 3 of the Act reads: "... but on pupil shall be required to take such instruction whose parents or guardian shall file a written statement with the school principal or teacher that such course conflicts with his religious belief." Section 8 of the Act is: "Nothing in this Act shall be construed to require students to undergo physical or medical examination or treatment, if the parents or legal guardian of such pupil shall, in writing, notify the teacher or other local school authorities of objection to such examination or treatment."
