EXCHANGING THE HUMAN FOR THE DIVINE

Under the marginal heading "Higher hope" Mary Baker Eddy records in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" this prophecy (p. 531): "The human mind will sometime rise above all material and physical sense, exchanging it for spiritual perception, and exchanging human concepts for the divine consciousness."

Mrs. Eddy was divinely anointed to bring the Science of true being, the promised Comforter, to this age. By healing the sick through regenerating human thought, she proved that the spiritual concept of health and harmony alone is real, and that the erroneous human concept can be progressively replaced by the divine.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy declares (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." The importance of this needful exchange is further indicated by the fact that in her writings Mrs. Eddy refers several times to St. Paul's counsel (Col. 3:9, 10), "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."
