During an unusually prolonged period of cold weather a student of Christian Science found considerable difficulty in surmounting the belief that the cold was affecting her harmony, and a day came when she was overcome by a severe bout of sickness. She knew that this was caused by her acceptance of the false claim of mortal mind that the abnormal conditions of the weather could adversely affect her health. With the help of Christian Science she felt much better when it was time to retire for the night, and the next day she was able to go out and attend to her duties.

The following morning, however, the symptoms seemed to be returning, indicating to her that the fear was not entirely overcome. She studied earnestly the Lesson-Sermon for that week, the subject of which was "Mind." The Lesson brought out clearly the fact that all is Mind, and that matter or material sense is nothing. One reference was from pages 151 and 152 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It read: "That mortal mind claims to govern every organ of the mortal body, we have overwhelming proof. But this so-called mind is a myth, and must by its own consent yield to Truth. It would wield the sceptre of a monarch, but it is powerless." She decided to stop worrying because her body was shivery and to stop thinking about the size of the fire and piling it up with coal, as she had done two days before. She declared that her life was in God, not in a shivering body, and that matter could not affect her life.

The Lesson brought out that Mind is Love. She saw that man, being the idea of Mind, must be Love's idea, and that he could be conscious only of the qualities of Love, of warmth and comfort, and not of cold and discomfort.
