A MORNING PRAYER
Thank
Thee, Father, for this morning hour
Spent in quiet study of Thy Word.
What peace and joy and strength are daily garnered
Here at the feet of Christ, the risen Lord!
No more the clamorous tasks of day seem hopeless;
No more the evening clothes itself in dread.
Thy love enwraps the heart in sweet assurance,
And feeds expectant thought with living bread.
Thank Thee for her who proved the Bible
Our guide sufficient to eternal life;
Who cast the light of Science on its pages,
Then stood unmoved by hatred, scorn, and strife.
Thank Thee for those who bear the lamp she lighted,
Who gather and prepare Truth's daily food.
As day by day we take this heavenly manna,
Increase, O God, our humble gratitude.
