WHAT ARE WE ACKNOWLEDGING?

The Bible states (Prov. 3:6), "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." One definition of acknowledge is to "recognize as a fact." Then what we acknowledge or recognize as a fact is highly important, because we shall thereby bring either truth or error into our daily experiences, and be either blessed or discomforted. The importance of a right acknowledgment may be seen in the fact that four out of the six religious Tenets of Christian Science, found on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, begin with the words, "We acknowledge."

What are the facts the recognition of which is for our benefit and welfare? Are they not facts about God, such as His ever-presence and allness, and about man, His image? Only that which is true about God can be true about man, His likeness. In proportion as we see and accept these spiritual truths we are acknowledging God in all our ways.

When sickness, lack, fear, or failure confronts us, what do we acknowledge? If we acknowledge man's likeness to God, to that only which is good and perfect, then we are deciding for health and against disease; for abundance and against lack and limitation; for courage and strength and against timidity and weakness; for surety of purpose and against the uncertainty of human conjectures. Thus acknowledging one God and man in His likeness, spiritual and perfect, we follow the upward way and our course will be straight.
