I JOHN 1:1-3

The well-beloved John, with humble heart,
Oft sat at Jesus' feet to learn of God
And man. Then to his righteous, yearning thought
The vision he had glimpsed of Truth became
A pearl which he must have at any cost
Of wrongful human thoughts and error's claims.

With such high tutelage John throve and grew
In understanding, learned to know that man
Is God's reflection now and ever. Then
He told mankind the wondrous truth for all
Of us to ponder well and understand,
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God."
