As a very young child I attended...
As a very young child I attended the Christian Science Sunday School and was healed of many ills, including an ugly sore which had appeared periodically on my face. Although I turned from Science through material pleasures and wrong companionship for a while, the good seed sown bore fruit, and I began to attend the services, finally joining The Mother Church and a branch church. Some erroneous beliefs dropped away, and I was healed of the tea and coffee habits. I am grateful to those who did their best to help me then, but my need was for the spirit, in addition to the letter of Christian Science. I learned that we should demonstrate the truth rather than talk it.
At that time, besides having other illnesses, I was anemic and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I was often deeply depressed, to the point of desiring to end my human existence, had an irritable and unloving disposition, and my thinking was often confused. Then came a deep disappointment, but this forced me to learn in some degree that, as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says in Science and Health (p. 71): "Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense." At this time a consecrated practitioner accepted me into her home, a thing which was far from easy for her to do because of my mental condition. But those hours of consecrated devotion to God, of joy, hymn singing, loving rebukes, and tender counsel, I shall never forget.
I was soon healed of the nervous condition with its depression, and I gained about thirty pounds. The healing of anemia followed, as did also healings of heart trouble, a chronic bowel condition, and severe periodic pains. I have greater physical endurance and my disposition has perceptibly improved. My moral courage has increased, and I can now testify in church, whereas before it was impossible for me even to speak before a classroom.
