NO VARIABLENESS

Recognizing the precious truth given to us by the Apostle James in the first chapter of his general epistle to "the twelve tribes ... scattered abroad," generations of people have been comforted. The statement reads (verse 17), "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and Cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." This is a fundamental teaching of Christian Science.

These good and perfect gifts are not material things, but eternal verities of God, who is Love, the Father-Mother, and are ever available to all. Our growth Spiritward depends upon our understanding of these spiritual truths.

Man, the compound idea of God, His image or expression, includes all right ideas. Thus in working out our life problem we learn to identify ourselves always with the gifts of Spirit: loving-kindness, strength, health, wisdom, courage, virtue, peace, and so on. There is "no shadow of turning" in our heavenly Father's bestowal of good.
