Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Boulder, Colorado (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boulder, held two services on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946. These meetings bore more than ordinary significance, for they included formal dedication of the church edifice.

Interest in Christian Science was first aroused in Boulder by the physical healing of two people. They with others who witnessed these healings were awakened to their need for more understanding of the truth of Christian Science. Because of this, nine persons began to meet at the home of one of their number in 1899. At these meetings, the Christian Science services outlined in the Church Manual were read. These meetings soon led to the organization of a Christian Science Society. This society rented a house which was used for all meetings. During the first three years of its organization, the society had grown so much that it was found necessary to hold Sunday morning services in Odd Fellows' Hall. On March 24, 1902, this society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boulder. One week later the Sunday School was started. These two organizations have been continuously active ever since.
