My initial healing in Christian Science,...

My initial healing in Christian Science, that of influenza, came about when I was reading for the first time the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I came to the second paragraph on page 14, I read and pondered it, lost in thought. When I became conscious of my surroundings again, I was completely free from pain. I had indeed been "absent from the body, and ... present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). The next physical healing was of the effects of a serious operation which had been performed before I knew of Christian Science. This healing came through the work of a practitioner, who helped me lift my thought and realize my freedom from a bondage of many years.

Unemployment was healed when I became more loving, obedient, and willing to let God's will govern my day. One morning after studying the Lesson-Sermon humbly and gratefully, I felt a sense of peace and release from human will and said out loud, "Whatever Thou hast for me to do today, heavenly Father, I want to do it, even if it is scrubbing the floor or washing dishes," two things I had not particularly liked to do. Within half an hour a call came to fill a position which I held for eight years.

I have had many other beautiful experiences, including the healing of blood boils, an infected eye, chronic sore throat, resentment, anger, and self-pity. In other words, I have begun to "put off the old man ... and ... put on the new man" (Col. 3:9, 10)—to express my real self. I had always longed for a better life, but until Christian Science came to me I did not know that a good life was mine already, that I did not have to search afar off. I found that right at hand was all I needed.
